This Week In Sanity: "Keywords."

A sincere thank you to all of our healthcare workers for their courage, persistence, and dedication. Thank you for not giving up at a time when many of you are being treated with undeserved contempt. Please know that the vocal minority does not represent the majority of Alaskans. We appreciate you and the high quality care you're providing patients.
Send a note of encouragement to our healthcare heroes — who are working to save lives even as they are spat upon and harassed.

NPR did an interview with Alaska Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Zink where she spoke the truth about the crisis Alaska is facing. Listen / read here.

Having quieted down for a spell after the mayoral election and the failed homophobic attempt to recall Felix Rivera, things are beginning to heat up again in the "Save Anchorage" group and I'm sure it has nothing to do with Jamie Allard's poking the group of people she once called a bunch of "crazies."
Just look at these keywords and phrases! "Coercion, pushing, unethical, COVID shot," are exactly the kinds of words you want to use in a group whose members celebrated the Jan 6. armed insurrection! This is what we call "stirring the pot."

Then, on the heels of Municipal Manager Amy Demboski's latest power trip, Allard uses some more spicy keywords to get "Save Anchorage's" blood pressure up — "corrupt, violation, trust."

Save Anchorage member Amy Demboski's letter, by the way, had two typos in it. I don't know what the Municipal "Manger" does, but I think it has something to do with feeding livestock. (I forget who pointed this one out first, but thanks!)

Also, if you're emailing the Anchorage Assembly, please know there's a good chance Allard will share your email with the "totally" level-headed people of Save Anchorage. She's redacted these as far as I can tell from the screenshots — maybe she learned her lesson after the time she shared information that led to the harassment of a constituent.

Look, I'm not saying Bronson supporter and Save Anchorage member Allard is trying to incite an insurrection of the Assembly or anything, but clearly, she has an agenda, and right now it looks like that agenda is to contribute to the spread of COVID-19 and to overwhelm our healthcare workers. It's a strange argument for one to make... ultra-conservatives don't want mask mandates, claim to care for healthcare workers, and then flood hospitals looking for treatment at a time when we only have 10 staffed adult ICU beds available in the state. We are truly living in bizarro land.

You can read a little bit more about Allard's close ties to the "Save Anchorage" group below. Last fall, she seemed concerned about a potential ethics violation.

Oh, and after Allard went viral on TikTok over her strange confrontation with Assembly Chair Suzanne LaFrance, racking up an incredible 327,500+ views, I wanted to point out that some people came to Allard's defense. It's always good to keep tabs on who you appeal to I guess...
In a brief conversation with Assembly Chair LaFrance about the confrontation, LaFrance told me: "Member Allard's actions were very concerning, as she seemed to be teetering on violent behavior."

Also, in "Save Anchorage" the COVID-19 misinformation continues...none of this is true by the way.

...and this kind of garbage continues to be posted…

...and then there's this...almost hard to believe right?

Save Anchorage member and ferry fan Sen. Lora Reinbold has been working overtime to ensure her government (not government) Facebook account is filled with false information warning labels. Absolutely nothing in her post, or the accompanying comment is true by the way.

It's only been a few months since dictator admirer Mayor Bronson took the helm of Anchorage and already he's the grift that keeps on grifting — or at least it all smells pretty grifty, but you be the judge. Catch up on the new for-profit business 99 Plus 1 Inc, who managed, somehow, to prevail over Beans Cafe over that whole mass care contract thing.
When you're done, you can read about a security company, Weka LLC, that jumped into the monoclonal antibody business. Mayor Bronson is a big fan of monoclonal antibodies as it turns out.
Also, Paula DeLaiarro, once the treasurer for Forrest Dunbar’s mayoral campaign, fired off another APOC complaint as a concerned citizen against “Open for Business with Bronson." In the complaint, WEKA, LLC is mentioned! DeLaiarro’s hefty 24-page complaint alleges multiple violations, including a failure to file required Independent Expenditure (IE) Reports. Check it out below. It's a doozy!

Dr. Kelly Lessens is kicking off her re-election campaign on September 29. She's undoubtedly going to face fierce opposition as she seeks a full three-year term on the school board. Keeping this seat is going to be important.
‘Biblical Values’ candidate Mark Anthony Cox signaled he too is running for school board and my impression is that he's a big fan of Dave Donley. Check out my most recent piece on Cox here.

Other happenings:
Matt Buxton wrote a great piece about "the outright denialism of Bronson and wink-and-a-nod denialism by Dunleavy."
In Fairbanks, Dermot Cole is covering literally everything:
- Dunleavy vacillates on vaccinations as deaths, hospitalizations mount
- Fairbanks assembly candidates Silva, Roberts spread lies about health impacts of masks
- Fairbanks doctor: 'We have people here dying almost every day this week of COVID'
My friends over at the Mudflats have a stellar recap of everything going on statewide. This week, they're calling it, "GOP “leadership” & Alaska’s COVID catastrophe," which is a pretty good assessment of where things are at in Alaska right now.
I'm hoping to not write a word on Sunday, except perhaps for the occasional social media post. Next week sometime I'll have something to share on one of Mayor Bronson's appointees and of course, we have what is certain to be a festive Anchorage Assembly meeting on Tuesday, so get that rest — you're going to need it.

Regardless of what anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers say, it's bad out there. Get vaccinated and stay safe.
