This Week In Sanity: 'It Really Is Insane'

As our healthcare system teeters on the brink of collapse, Bronson supporter Jamie Allard and her group of plague rats from Save Anchorage, Open Alaska, and Alaskans for Children's Right to Breathe march onward with their non-patriotic, non-science-based quest to rid the Anchorage School District of its universal mask mandate. Intending to file suit against the school district, Elizabeth Welsh has stated (to nobody's surprise) Stacey Stone is the attorney who would file such a lawsuit.

Children aged 11 and younger accounted for 15% of Alaska's coronavirus cases last month. The only thing you'll hear from deniers and mask holes is how children are "immune" from the virus — a lie perpetrated by those who lean on the interpretations of data made by local chiropractors who refer to the COVID-19 vaccine as the "poison jab."

If you spend time searching local social media, you will find photographs of Alaskans fighting for their lives in hospitals. You'll read harrowing accounts of Alaskans who have nearly died from COVID-19 and many who suffer long-term debilitating effects due to being sickened with the virus.

The stories of those impacted by COVID-19 are endless and needlessly tragic.

Dr. Clancy, an infectious disease doctor who has worked in Anchorage for 16 years, says that hospitals are beginning to see children with moderate to severe COVID-19, telling the Anchorage Assembly yesterday they had a two-year-old and a baby under 30 days both hospitalized as a result of the virus this week. Dr. Clancy says that one of the children was hospitalized in the ICU.

"We have got to slow down the number of people coming into the hospital. We either need to choose to do something on a community level, to slow down the volume in the hospital, or we're really choosing healthcare collapse in this city," Dr. Clancy told the assembly at yesterday's Briefing on Covid-19 Metrics and CDC Recommendations for Indoor Spaces.

Also, at yesterday's briefing, Assemblymember Kameron Perez-Verdia asked Dr. Savitt, a Pediatrician who has written some disgusting and disturbing comments on the far-right blog Must Read Alaska:

"Regardless of the number of infections, the capacity of our hospitals, regardless of how high that gets, from your perspective, your office would not recommend any mandates at all? Is that correct?"

Savitt responded to Perez-Verdia with another disgusting comment, "That's like a when did you stop beating your wife question."

In a typical MAGA manner, Anchorage Mayor David Bronson did not attend yesterday's briefing and was nowhere to be found. Instead, Mayor Bronson and Governor Dunleavy are hiding — playing fast and loose with the lives of Alaskans as they continue to 'Trumpet' "personal choice."

Encouraging "personal choice" instead of urging their supporters to get vaccinated and wear masks is a far cry from what our healthcare workers are asking elected officials to do. To institute a mask mandate and come out with full-throated support of vaccinations.

The Food and Drug Administration is on track to fully approve Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine for adults as soon as next week, taking it out of emergency use authorization status. Mayor Bronson has said that he has not received the COVID-19 vaccine because it was "experimental." When Pfizer is fully approved, Mayor Bronson should lead by example and announce he will get vaccinated against COVID-19. Perhaps Bronson's misguided supporters will follow suit.

I believe it will be near impossible to encourage Mayor Bronson's Save Anchorage followers to get vaccinated if these screenshots taken in the past 48 hours are an indicator:

I think the damage has already been done, and we have, in part, Mayor Bronson and his backers in Save Anchorage, and more importantly, Facebook — we have Facebook to thank for allowing this dangerous misinformation on COVID-19 to persist on its platform.

Alaska's own Jeff Landfield spent last evening as a resident of the Sullivan Arena — live-tweeting his experience as he lay among Anchorage's unhoused population. I frequently checked in on his experience, which in my opinion, has made the best argument against a mass shelter solution.

Former Alaska Representative Les Gara announced yesterday that he is running for Governor.

According to sources familiar with the details, failed US Senate candidate Dr. Al Gross has been polling and sharing the details of that poll with Alaska politicos claiming that he alone can beat Governor Dunleavy. I have not seen the poll but I have been told that Gross commissioned it from the same company that was 13 points off last time!

The long and short of what I've been told is that the poll has Gross in third place and former Alaska Governor Walker in fourth place. Please don't run Al. I'm sad to say that it's pretty clear you won't win a statewide race.

The 'Mission Critical Alaska' Facebook group appears to be going off the rails more than usual after sharing a post from Bronson supporter Michael Chambers.

In his public post, the former campaign manager for Joe Miller called for a constitutional convention to hold "legislators criminally responsible for the acts of tyranny against our state constitution," writing that legislators would continue to thumb their noses at the laws and constitution unless there was a direct and substantial consequence for these legislative tyrants."

The group also shared this little gem giving me big Save Anchorage Ethan Berkowitz feelz.

Mission Critical Alaska is definitely a group to keep tabs on.

And last, everyone's 'favorite' Eagle River Facebook epidemiologist has done the impossible — sinking to a new low in a maskless pool of pee.

Allard, a member of various conspiracy theory-laden social media groups, posted this stupid picture to ACRB this week as a "fact." The post was met with unhinged rapturous online applause by her plague rat following — hypnotically heeding their Pied Piper — entranced by her 'clever' post.

If anyone knows the pool location that hundreds of people are simultaneously peeing in, please let me or Alaska DHSS know.

I don't know...but uhh...that sounds like a good place to end to me.
