Testimony Opposing ‘Grotesque’ Anti-trans Youth Sports Bill SB 140 Sought (Again)

Last Thursday, on the day of the hearing for State Senator Shelly Hughes’ discriminatory and transphobic anti-trans youth sports bill SB 140, Senator Roger Holland, Chair of the Education Committee, canceled testimony members of the public were prepared to give on the bill. The committee did, however, permit out-of-state “friendlies” to speak in support of Hughes’ crusade against trans youth.
Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates of Alaska says SB 140, part of a nationwide coordinated attack on transgender student-athletes across the country, is blatantly discriminatory, designed to exclude transgender girls and deny them the ability to participate fully in sports and school communities with the intended goal of erasing trans people from sports, school communities and all aspects of life.
Members and allies of the LGBTQ community have begun organizing opposition to SB 140 and are encouraging Alaskans to call in and testify against the bill this Saturday, March 12 at 9:55 am.
