'Save the Children' crazies successfully censor 'Let's Talk About It' from Ketchikan Library.

Just two weeks after voting to keep the teen book 'Let's Talk About It' in the youth section where it belongs, the pro-censorship activists on the Ketchikan City Council voted 4-3 to censor the book and send it to the adult section of the library where it doesn't belong.
Right-wing liars, extremists, and 'Save the Children' crazies in Alaska have joined the lower 48 culture wars, pushing to ban and censor LGBTQ+ books in schools and public libraries. The effort is part of an un-American & anti-First Amendment nationwide movement aimed at dismantling public libraries' diverse collection of materials.
The City Council's decision to censor 'Let's Talk About It' came after the Ketchikan Library Advisory Board voted 6-1 earlier this year to keep the book in the youth section. City Councilwoman Abby Bradberry was the swing vote that ultimately led to the book being censored after falling victim to far-right fear-mongering that suggested children might stumble upon the book — and be scarred...for life.
During two council meetings, right-wing confabulators living in a Little House on the Prairie episode—groused that the book mocked chastity and virginity as outdated virtues. Others nonsensically claimed that they had suddenly become fearful of the local library and attacked librarians—accusing them of exposing youth to pornographic material. Individuals also claimed 'Let's Talk About It' violated state laws prohibiting the distribution of indecent materials to minors - an imaginary losing legal argument that has no factual basis in reality.
It's unclear why the pro-censorship activists who testified in support of banning and censoring 'Let's Talk About It' made no mention about the importance of parenting their own children to ensure they read only library materials that align with their own values. Also unknown is why pro-censorship activists are deeply concerned about what other families are reading or why they are lurking around the children's area of public libraries.
'Save the Children' crazies have circulated endless disinformation campaigns intended to smear Democrats, liberals, progressives, and plain old librarians as pedophiles who are grooming children for abuse. They tend to ignore when registered Alaska Republican school teachers like Lukis Nighswonger are sentenced to 46 years for sex offenses related to 11 children or when Save Anchorage members are arrested for felony stalking, child pornography, and sexual assault.

In recent weeks, some Alaska Republican politicians and high-ranking state employees have come out of the closet to promote the movie 'Sound of Freedom' which has been described as an anti-child trafficking fantasy fit for QAnon conspiracy theorists and a QAnon-adjacent thriller.
Per reporting by the Guardian, the movie's hero, played by "actor" Jim Caviezel, has promoted the movie on Steve Bannon’s show War Room via MyPillow proprietor Mike Lindell’s streaming channel Lindell TV.

Caviezel has parroted falsehoods about Pizzagate and other underground cells subsisting on human blood, all of it pointing back to a foundation of conspiratorial thought targeting the Jewish and transgender communities. He gained notoriety in 2021, when he evoked Mel Gibson's famous battle cry from the movie Braveheart during a speech at a QAnon convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, QAnon conspiracy theorists actively opposed vaccines and mask-wearing—later shifting their focus towards launching attacks on Critical Race Theory and propagating disgusting false claims against LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies while simultaneously taking up the hobby of book censorship.
If you're wondering why the phrase "Save the Children" sounds familiar, it's because it has served as the rallying cry for all their above-listed causes, reminding us that these right-wing actors are, in fact, all the same people.
