Right-Wing Radical Turns Night Prowler: Cowardly Vandal Targets School Board Candidate's Signs

An uneducated, heterosexual male and avid Trump supporter living in the Mat-Su Valley seems to have fallen victim to the influence of right-wing pundits and far-right extremist groups like Moms for Liberty.

Driven by the strength of his convictions and intoxicated by the fumes of right-wing propaganda propagated by Faux News and Newsmax, the coward has taken to a life of crime, prowling around in the middle of the night to vandalize the campaign signs belonging to Diane Shibe, a candidate running for the Matanuska Susitna School Board.

Wouldn't your time be better spent protesting child beauty pageants?

Defaming educators like Shibe as child pornographers is a favorite pastime of those associated with the far-right—when they're not busy flogging their microscopic genitalia while watching replays of their fellow Trump supporters storm the U.S. Capitol that is.

It must be a misunderstanding, right? Because accusing someone of being a child pornographer is a serious allegation, plus it's difficult to believe that any rational and sane person could ever consider a library book featuring two gay teenagers kissing as sexually explicit, much less child PoRn.

That is unless, of course, the current state of the Republican party has plunged us into a surreal realm where conservatives openly align with groups like Moms for Liberty, an extremist organization endorsed by Donald Trump and which defended a member's use of a Hitler quote in a newsletter.

No really, there's a clip and everything! ⬇️

(Moms for Liberty Mat-Su endorsed Ole Larson and Kathy McCollum by the way).

This disturbing embrace of extremism by conservatives is a concerning trend, and yes, it is a trend.

In the past Anchorage Municipal Election, Assembly Chair Christopher Constant found his campaign signs vandalized with the same deranged right-wing rhetoric.

Some of Constant's signs had been plastered with images taken from the teen book 'Let's Talk About It.' Curiously, they included some of the very same images shared online by Jay McDonald—a failed political candidate, local activist, and self-proclaimed supposed watchdog who falsely claimed Anchorage School District students were reading the book "behind closed doors."

But defacing Shibe's signs may have backfired because it appears the signs have multiplied. In a Facebook post made this evening, Shibe said she was proud of her supporters who had come together to fight the negativity of the vandals who had destroyed her signs.

"The vandals want to thwart free speech and democracy, but my supporters insist on being heard," Shibe wrote.

Meanwhile, in the real world, far away from conservative culture wars—Alaska's education system is facing dire challenges.

Our schools are deteriorating, childcare expenses are soaring, and all the while, Governor Dunleavy is defunding public education—driving talented and desperately needed teachers to other states with lower living costs and better retirement benefits. Oh, and his administration is suppressing reports about teacher pay that paint his administration in a most unflattering light.

But extremist Alaska conservatives? They couldn't care less about the big picture. Instead, they're obsessing over the most intimate details of your child's life—their gender, their reading material, where they empty their bladders and bowels—all while gleefully trashing the reputations of education professionals and treating campaign signs like a Moms for Liberty art project.

Cuz, ya know, those are the things that matter.
