Mears for Alaska Kick-off Fundraiser next Wednesday

Shortly after the newly formed Senate District K was confirmed, Donna Mears realized that East Anchorage, her home of 20 years, would need someone to show up, stand up, and unify the neighbors of the new district that now pairs East Anchorage with Eagle River and that's what she's doing — stepping up to unseat incumbent vaccine conspiracy theorist Republican Senator Lora Reinbold.

Mears, a civil engineer with over two decades of design and project management experience in water, sewer, stormwater, and solid waste infrastructure throughout the state, has been engaged in community work since the late '90s, which includes growing the local recycling industry, serving on multiple boards and commissions, and volunteering at her kids' schools on projects big and small.

As the pandemic remains an overshadowing presence for many Alaskans, Mears says she believes that Senators need to support science and business-informed public health policy but that the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic aren't the only ones she is ready to tackle.

One significant future task will be to route hundreds of millions of dollars a year in federal infrastructure funding. Mears says she is also prepared to help layout plans that provide education and training for Alaskans ready to seize these upcoming career opportunities.

The Mears for Alaska kickoff event will be held Wednesday, February 16, from 6:00-8:00 pm and is being co-hosted by East Anchorage Assembly members Forrest Dunbar and Pete Peterson, Daniel Volland, Anchorage School Board Member Carl Jacobs, Kay Brown, and many others.

You can sign up for the fundraiser at the Zoom registration link for the event and follow Mears' campaign on Facebook and Twitter.

An hour ago, Reinbold wrote on Facebook that she was stranded in Juneau because she had been "politically banned" from flying on Alaska Airlines. Mears is not banned from the airline and would have no trouble traveling to and from the state's capital if elected.
