Growing Alaskan Leaders Issues Action Alert Over Eledge

Growing Alaskan Leaders (GALS) has issued an 'action alert' over Mayor Bronson's pick to run the Anchorage Public Library system — Judy Eledge.
Eledge, the group says, is an "unsuccessful" Anchorage School Board candidate who has shared "racist, homophobic, transphobic, and xenophobic public statements" on social media.
In February, Judy Eledge participated in an Alaska News Source interview where she admitted to writing some of the social media posts which had been widely shared during this year's Anchorage School Board race.
GALS is calling on concerned Anchorage residents to help preserve the integrity of the Anchorage Public Library System and recognize the amazing equity work library staff have been embarking on for years. The group asked in its statement about Eledge for individuals to "step up" and make known that Anchorage "will not tolerate someone like Judy running a community institution."
In the group's statement made today on social media, GALS asked the wider community to take the following steps:
- Email the Anchorage Assembly
- Attend the next Regular Assembly meeting on September 14th to give initial public testimony.
- Write a Letter to the Editor with concerns about Mayor Bronson's appointment & submit them to the Anchorage Daily News.
- Agree to sign on to/assist in writing a joint op-ed piece focusing on the fact that this incoming library director has made public statements about our BIPOC, LGBTQ+ & unhoused communities.
