In a press release issued today, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy called on Alaskans to use good judgment and practice common safety measures as Alaska’s limited healthcare infrastructure contends with a high rate of hospitalizations.
According to the press release, Dunleavy's call to action comes as leaders from Alaska’s healthcare facilities announced their concerns with hospitals, especially in southcentral, being "at capacity and experiencing staffing limits, impacting the ability to treat patients."
Dunleavy said in the press release that driving safely, using the right protective gear when operating power tools and machinery, wearing a life jacket, preparing for the elements, extinguishing camp, and cooking fires, in addition to "choosing to take the free Covid-19 vaccine" as he has done, are all things that Alaskans can do to ensure the personal safety of our neighbors.
Dunleavy's press release includes links to safe burning guidelines and burn bans, Covid-19 vaccine appointment information, and the Alaska Covid-19 Information Hub.
