Full Circle: Save Anchorage member pleads guilty in Capitol Hill case

Aaron J. Mileur, a resident of Alaska and one-time member of the Save Anchorage Facebook group, has entered a guilty plea for violating a law against parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. According to legal documents, the Government will seek to dismiss three other charges against Mileur, which he must acknowledge were “based in fact” at the time of his sentencing.
As part of the plea agreement, Mileur will grant law enforcement access to his social media accounts to review posts and statements made around January 6, 2021. He must also participate in an interview with law enforcement regarding the events of that day.

The 2020 election cycle saw numerous baseless claims of widespread election fraud perpetrated by pro-Bronson Save Anchorage group members. Many regurgitated the false claims of former president Donald Trump, who alleged that the election had been rigged against him and that dominion voting machines and voting by mail were corrupt and untrustworthy.
The hysteria generated by these unfounded allegations reached a boiling point when Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6 in an attempt to keep the then-president in power. The violent attack resulted in numerous injuries, including 138 police officers. Tragically, five people lost their lives, four of them officers who committed suicide in the seven months following the attack.
In its original criminal complaint, the FBI said Mileur posted a video taken from within the U.S. Capitol on January 6 to the Save Anchorage Facebook group and his personal Facebook account.
Reclaim Midtown, a Facebook page operated by the Arctic Liberation Coalition whose Alaska business license expired last year, suggested shortly after Mileur’s arrest that the video referenced by the FBI was only “supposedly posted” to Save Anchorage and didn’t show the person involved.

But last September, Mileur’s name came up again when CBS News reported the arrest of two more individuals with deep ties to Mileur — Tyrone McFadden Jr. and Carrie Ann Williams. Both were arrested on charges including disorderly conduct in a restricted building and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.
Williams and McFadden’s online activities caught the FBI’s watchful eye after Williams was tagged in a Facebook post by her cousin, Aaron J. Mileur, who had posted several images and videos from inside the Capitol on January 6, including a photo with Williams and a man who was later identified as McFadden.

The FBI agent reviewing Williams’ Facebook account said he found messages between Williams and Mileur discussing taking down their Facebook posts.

In the days following the attack on the U.S. Capitol, many within Save Anchorage cheered the events of January 6, and one Alaska resident referred to the attack as a “necessary evil.” Others assailed Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan for voting to count the Electoral College vote from the 2020 presidential election.
Mileur and Save Anchorage are listed in the Insurrection Index alongside Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy, failed candidate for everything Kathy Henslee, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, lifetime Oath Keeper member Rep. David Eastman and failed candidate for U.S. Senate Kelly Tshibaka.
No date has been set for Mileur’s sentencing.
