Giessel Rips Dunleavy

It's almost like she never went away.

Giessel Rips Dunleavy

Catherine Giessel (R), who once served as state Senate president and previously served as a committee member, vice-chair, and chairperson of the Alaska Republican Party, just ripped Governor Michael Dunleavy in a newsletter.

Giessel wrote that while the Legislature worked on the budget, Governor Dunleavy went hunting and to Washington, DC, for meetings instead of being at the Governor's Mansion, where he belongs.

Giessel also said that partisan gridlock in Juneau is repeating itself. There's a "void of leadership," she writes, noting that the gridlock will not resolve without a commitment to compromise from Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate.

Giessel says that during the 2019-2020 session, most Republicans and Democrats were committed to communication and compromise. "Governor Dunleavy was not," she wrote matter of factly.

The former State Senate President hurled a zinger in Dunleavy's direction when she wrote:

"I don't know about you, but I find the Governor's detachment and lack of leadership to be frustrating and discouraging."

The burn. It hurts.
