Dunbar/Allard: Incoming Bronson Admin Considering "Camp-Like Environment" For up to 1,000

At the Anchorage Assembly meeting last evening, Assemblyman Forrest Dunbar and Assemblywoman Jamie Allard revealed that the Northway Mall is no longer being considered as a site for the mass shelter. Instead, the incoming Bronson administration is considering putting up to 1,000 individuals in a "camp-like environment" as a temporary shelter solution.
Allard said it was a "dome-like structure" that would be broken down into separate areas where up to a thousand homeless individuals could stay all day.
No further details were given about the alleged plan as Assembly Chair Rivera cut off the discussion, which had begun after a member of the public testified on the topic of homelessness at last evening's meeting.
