Christopher Constant announces bid for U.S. House of Representatives

Anchorage Assemblyman Christopher Constant announced his candidacy for Congress today, making him the first Democrat to jump into the race against Alaska Rep. Don Young.

In announcing his candidacy to become Alaska's voice in the U.S. House of Representatives, Constant said he recognized that the potential to build a better tomorrow was limitless and that by bringing more Alaskans to the table, the state would be able to bring more inclusive and innovative ideas to Washington D.C.

"It's time to reject political pessimism and instead lead with courage, optimism, and hope," Constant said.

Constant is running to protect Alaska's position as America's legendary oil and gas producer while leading on new, alternative energy innovations like blue hydrogen and other fuels of the future, to build world-class infrastructure including modern ports, roads, and aerospace facilities to strengthen Alaska's workforce and to ensure all Alaskan children (no matter their circumstances) have access to quality education including colleges, trade schools, and apprentice programs.

The Alaska Democratic Party issued a press release shortly after Constant's announcement, saying that they applauded his decision to run for U.S. Congress, calling him a deeply connected community member who has represented Downtown Anchorage on the Anchorage Assembly for the past four years.

"Chris is a dedicated public servant who has been a strong and consistent advocate for public safety, infrastructure, and economic development," Alaska Democratic Party Chair Casey Steinau said.

"As we work to create a positive future for our state, we need our one member of Congress to listen with empathy and work tirelessly for the benefit of all people. Chris has done that for years as a private citizen and on the Anchorage Assembly; he is exactly who we need representing us in the halls of Congress."

Constant is a 25-year Anchorage resident and has been an active community participant ever since. He has served as president of the Fairview Community Council and has been a tireless advocate for strong schools and infrastructure in the Downtown Anchorage district. He is a licensed real estate professional and serves as Grants and Contracts Director for a statewide nonprofit substance abuse and behavioral health treatment provider.

As Vice Chair of the Anchorage Assembly, he has forged productive relationships with members from across the political spectrum and helped lead the city during the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

More information about his candidacy can be found on his campaign website, which, I must say, looks very sophisticated.
