Citing a high number of propositions proposed for the April 5, 2022 Regular Municipal Election and the high public interest surrounding the proposals, the Anchorage Assembly has scheduled a special meeting for January 19 to take public testimony on election-related items.
Alaskans for Better Government has collected more than 55,000 signatures from Alaskans in support of an initiative to formalize the State’s government to government relationship with Tribes.
Democratic candidate for Alaska Governor Les Gara called on Governor Mike Dunleavy last month to hold a press conference with health experts before the fast-spreading omicron variant was able to infect large numbers of Alaskans, but Governor Dunleavy has ignored that call.
“We should get out reliable information to people so they can protect themselves and their families. Alaska has had the advantage of seeing what’s happening in other states before this new virus strain surges here, We should use that advantage to protect people and save lives,” said former Rep. Les Gara.
The December 14 Special Meeting of the Anchorage Assembly will feature several items for public hearing that were on the December 7 agenda but could not be addressed before the meeting adjourned.
This afternoon, through a series of veto overrides, the Anchorage Assembly upheld the majority of budget amendments that were made with the November 23 passage of the Municipality’s 2022 general government operating, utilities and enterprise, ACDA, and capital budgets.
