Assemblywoman Jamie Allard - No Scientific Proof Lockdowns Work

On December 3, the Turnagain Community Council had its monthly Zoom meeting. After that meeting, Anchorage assemblywoman Jamie Allard wasted everyone's time as she sought to spew more anti-science nonsense at anyone within earshot.

In a video clip taken from the December 3 TCC meeting, Allard said she was in a meeting with Anchorage Health Department epidemiologist Janet Johnson and went on to claim that there was no scientific proof that locking Anchorage down for four weeks was going to work and that doing so was "experimental."

Respected Muni epidemiologist Janet Johnson appears to strongly disagree with the Assembly person from Eagle River, writing in part to one of the community councils on the matter:

"We recognize that business closures and capacity reductions result in tremendous hardship for businesses and their employees, and we have not taken these measures lightly. Unfortunately, COVID-19 case counts in Anchorage, is extremely high, resulting in increased hospitalizations and deaths. Public educations and pleas for people to wear masks all the time, maintain physical distance, and reduce social interactions have not resulted in sufficient behavior change to reduce COVID-19 spread. Based on the science and evidence from other locations, we believe that the measures included in EO-16 will help stem the tide of rapidly increasing new COVID-19 cases, reducing the strain on the healthcare system, and hopefully bring us closer to getting students back to school."
