AlaskaBluEvolution launches ahead of must-win municipal elections

It's election season in Anchorage, so you know what that means — it's time for Alaska conservatives to begin spreading fear with baseless assertions and Kellyanne Conway level alternative facts.

In December 2020, the AlaskaRedvolution domain was created (sounds communist) and is now being used to promote conservative propaganda (fake news) ahead of this April's municipal election, where every major candidate running against incumbent members of the Anchorage Assembly is backed by the shadowy pro-Bronson Save Anchorage Facebook group.

A note on the website claims it was built with "private funds" from a single person and alleges Democrats value the following:

• Racial Tension
• Forced Mandates
• Soaring Prices
• Criminals First, Victims Second
• Skyrocketing Crime
• Catch & Release, No Bail
• Defunding Police
• Dividing Americans
• Higher Taxes

I'm not going to waste my time ripping apart the list, which was probably taken from the InfoWars website, but it's worth noting that at the bottom of the website is a sentence that claims regardless of one's race, religion or age — conservatives, desperate to gain a foothold in Anchorage — are willing to welcome just about anyone to the conservative party. That is, unless you're a member of the LGBT community as sexual orientation and gender identity are notably absent from the list of acceptable individuals that can be welcomed into the conservative fold.

In light of the fact that Anchorage Mayor David Bronson nominated a homophobic religious zealot to the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission last year, and that conservatives are waging a nationwide assault on LGBT books in schools and public libraries, let's not pretend to be surprised the party is still living in the 1950's.

Anyway, it looks like someone was paying attention to the machinations coming from the right because another website has emerged, this one called AlaskaBluEvolution (not communist sounding) which sets the record straight about what Democrats and Progressives do believe:

• Freedom of speech and expression
• Government that works for the people
• Voting rights and election integrity
• Great public education for all kids
• Workers’ rights to be treated fairly
• Equal justice for all people
• Safe streets
• Letting Alaskans choose how to live their lives

The AlaskaBlueEvolution website lists candidates to consider in the upcoming Anchorage Assembly and Anchorage School Board races and clears the air about what former president Donald Trump's party really believes. (Serious kudos to whoever created that list.)

If you've been concerned about the actions of the Bronson Administration, watch what happens when his Save Anchorage-backed candidates — who have already stated that they will greenlight anything Bronson wants — make it onto the assembly.

Honestly folks, this year's election is tremendously important and if you think Progressive and level headed moderate assembly candidates have it wrapped up and in the bag — think again.

In last year's mayoral race, Forrest Dunbar won his own district by only 5.33% and now challenger Stephanie Taylor, a longtime Save Anchorage member turned right-wing radical whose gross unpopularity has led her to enlist services from outside Alaska in a hail-mary bid to oust him, is coming big for that seat.

Register to vote, get engaged, talk to your friends and hold the line this April.
