Scientist Jennifer Sonne Announces Run for Alaska Legislature

Alaska scientist Jennifer Sonne has announced her run for the Alaska Legislature.

Sonne, who moved to Anchorage with her husband 8 years ago, has a degree in Chemistry and has worked in the oil and gas industry for nearly 10 years. Her website says that, as a result of that work experience, she understands "the challenges the industry faces and why we need to diversify our state's resources."

After leaving the gas and oil industry, Sonne says she worked for the Alaska State Government in Spill Prevention and Response as a proud member of ASFCME/ ASEA Local 52 and now works in environmental consulting — working to prevent and clean up environmental contamination around Alaska.

Sonne says that her decision to run was based partly on her state representative never responding to issues she presented to him, writing that "He never got back to me. Not once." Sonne is running for the Legislature on a "Responsive Representation" platform in South Anchorage as an Independent who has a progressive vision for Alaska's future.
