Alaska AG and Right-Wing Candidates Lock Arms With Hate Organization

Over the weekend, Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor and far-right Republican candidates Nick Begich and Lt. Governor Nancy Dahlstrom, both vying for Alaska's sole U.S. House seat, openly aligned with extremist organization Moms for Liberty. The hate group held a sparsely attended event on Saturday at the Matanuska River Park, which also drew the attention of right-wing state House candidate Jubilee Underwood, state Senate candidate Jared Goecker, and Rep. David Eastman.
Cloaked in the misleading banner of "parental rights," Moms for Liberty has consistently targeted LGBTQ+ people, advocating for discriminatory and exclusionary policies and pushing book bans that seek to erase the voices of marginalized communities. They have stooped so low as to vilify teachers and librarians as "groomers," a baseless and harmful accusation that seeks to label education professionals as being child sexual abusers. Just ask Rep. Jamie Allard—she's a pro at spreading the lingo!

Taylor and Dahlstrom's attendance at Saturday's event is notable yet unsurprising as Moms for Liberty has found an ally in the Dunleavy administration. They share broader far-right values focused on dismantling public education and promoting individual liberties, principles that resonate with Moms for Liberty's advocacy and radical membership. The hate group has been involved in supporting right-wing school board candidates as a means to further their influence on educational policies, although with little success to date.
And remember, it was just last November that Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor, who previously offered to purchase movie tickets for state employees to see the QAnon-adjacent thriller Sound of Freedom, sent a chilling and threatening letter to public and school librarians, warning them to ensure their collection of materials does not violate municipal, state, and federal education laws that prohibit the distribution of hardcore 'P0Rn' to minors.
The timing of Saturday's event during Pride Month was a calculated move by Moms for Liberty to amplify their discriminatory message. By aligning their gathering with a month dedicated to celebrating and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community, Moms for Liberty and their allies sought to undermine the spirit of inclusivity and acceptance by pushing its divisive and harmful agenda.
Meanwhile, in Seward, a bomb threat was made yesterday on Drag Story Hour at the local library, an event held by the Seward Pride Alliance as part of Pride Week. Despite this dangerous threat, community members, business owners, and parents have united, refusing to stand idly by and allow hatred, bigotry, and threats of violence to overshadow their values. Businesses such as Kayak Adventures, Sunny Cove Kayaking, Seward Alehouse, Flamingo Lounge, and Resurrect Art have pledged to match donations, aiming to raise $10,000 for the Seward Pride Alliance.

Anyway, for more than a year, I've detailed Moms for Liberty's uprising in Alaska—and while I don't have the bandwidth to further expand upon what's coming down the pike this election cycle, know this: they will stop at nothing to dismantle public education. Their agenda is plainly clear, and they are coming for our schools. It's more important than ever to stand up and support candidates who oppose the dangerous rhetoric and divisive policies of Moms for Liberty and the Dunleavy administration.
